Illinois Sales Tax Redistribution Act and Funding for Old Town Chi Municipal Services

Changes to local services

Park District staff in the neighborhood have been notified that seasonal staffing at Lincoln Park’s North Avenue Beach facility will increase by six positions during the summer months. The legislation does not restrict how municipalities spend the funds, leaving allocation decisions to the Chicago City Council.
The Illinois Department of Revenue will release the first quarterly payment under the new formula in April 2027. Local finance officers will incorporate the figures into the city’s mid-year budget review scheduled for May.
Policy analysts at the Civic Federation note that similar redistribution measures in prior years produced measurable shifts in municipal capital budgets within six months of implementation.
