Chicago Launches Lead Service Line Inspections in Wicker Park September 2026
Wicker Park property owners in the 32nd Ward will receive mailed notices in September 2026 for initial inspections under the city's updated infrastructure schedule.

The City of Chicago Department of Water Management has published the rollout schedule for its lead service line replacement program. Wicker Park addresses built before 1950 fall into the first assessment group, with notices scheduled to arrive by mail between September 8 and September 30, 2026.
The schedule follows the release of the 2026 capital improvement plan, which coordinates city work with available federal matching funds. Older housing stock in the neighborhood makes the area eligible for early inclusion, according to the plan documents dated July 7, 2026.
Assessment and Work Windows
Residents selected for inspection will be asked to provide access to basement or exterior service lines within 30 days of the notice. Replacement work, when required, is listed for the period from October 2026 through March 2027. Each property is projected to face one water shutoff lasting 24 to 48 hours during excavation and reconnection.
The 2026 capital improvement plan allocates 120 million dollars citywide to the program. Fifteen percent of that amount is assigned to North Side wards that include the 32nd Ward, covering Wicker Park blocks between North Avenue and Division Street.
Property owners who receive notices must respond to schedule the visit. The documents state that non-response after two follow-up attempts will place the address at the end of the current cycle, pushing any replacement to 2028 or later. Renters will receive copies of notices sent to building owners so they can arrange access for crews.
City crews are expected to finish all first-wave inspections by December 15, 2026. A second round of notifications for remaining Wicker Park addresses is listed for early 2027 once the initial data is compiled.
