Lakeview Reveals 5 Best Walking Trails by Distance and Difficulty
Updated city maps highlight measured paths in local parks for walkers seeking options from short loops to longer climbs.
How we reported this

Lakeview Parks and Recreation released its revised trail ratings on July 6, assigning each path a distance and difficulty score based on elevation gain and surface conditions.
The update arrives as summer temperatures settle into the mid-70s and more residents seek outdoor routines after indoor months. Lakeview's active wellness culture has drawn steady participation in park programs, with city data showing consistent growth in trail visits during warmer weeks.
Two spots anchor the list. Lakeview Central Park, bounded by Main Street and Elm Avenue, features the 1.2-mile Meadow Loop rated easy with minimal grade changes and a crushed-stone surface. Nearby, the Riverside Greenway in the Oakwood neighborhood runs 3.8 miles along the water with moderate inclines and some root-covered sections, drawing runners and hikers from the Lakeview Wellness Initiative's weekly group walks.
Shorter routes for steady pacing
The Meadow Loop at Central Park covers its full distance in under 30 minutes for most walkers and stays shaded by mature oaks. The city added new benches along the route in spring 2026. A second easy option, the 0.8-mile Pond Circuit inside the same park, circles a small water feature and stays flat throughout.
Trail counters installed by the Lakeview Recreation Board recorded 4,872 passes on the Meadow Loop during June 2026, up from 3,910 the prior year. Maintenance crews repaved low spots on the Pond Circuit last month to reduce puddling after rain.
Longer climbs for added challenge
The Riverside Greenway's full out-and-back reaches 7.6 miles and includes two short but steep rises near the Oakwood bridge. Walkers who complete it in under two hours typically average 15 to 20 minutes per mile. A connector trail from the Greenway leads into the adjacent Hilltop Preserve, adding another 2.4 miles of moderate terrain with gravel underfoot.
Participants in the Lakeview Wellness Initiative pay no fee to join scheduled outings but must register online at least 24 hours ahead. The board advises checking the city's trail app for real-time surface reports before heading out.
Anyone starting a new routine should speak with a local medical professional first. Maps and current conditions are posted at the Central Park kiosk and on the Lakeview Parks website.
