Lincoln Park Schools Launch Daily Meditation to Reduce Student Stress
Lincoln Park schools roll out daily meditation blocks to address student stress levels ahead of the 2026-27 academic year.
How we reported this
Lincoln Park High School began offering ten-minute guided mindfulness sessions at the start of each school day on September 8, 2025.
Academic demands and screen time have risen sharply since hybrid learning ended, prompting local educators to add structured breathing and attention practices during the school week.
Programs at Lincoln Park schools and parks
At Lincoln Park High School on West Belden Avenue, ninth- and tenth-graders now start first period with a recorded meditation led by trained staff. The same district also funds after-school sessions at the Oz Park fieldhouse on North Larrabee Street, where the Chicago Park District runs a six-week series open to students from nearby Alcott College Prep.
Both sites use the Mindful Schools curriculum and require no registration fee for district families. Sessions run on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:15.
Participation numbers and costs
A Chicago Public Schools internal memo dated June 2, 2026, recorded 287 students enrolled across the two Lincoln Park locations, an increase of 41 students from the prior spring term. The program budget lists $2,400 per site for instructor stipends and audio equipment, covered by a state wellness grant that expires in 2027.
Families who want to continue practice over summer can join drop-in classes at the Lincoln Park Cultural Center on North Clark Street for $10 per session or $60 for a six-class pass, with the first class free for current public-school students.
Enrollment for the fall term opens through each school’s parent portal on July 15. Parents seeking additional options can also call the Chicago Park District Lincoln Park office at 312-742-7720 to reserve spots in the August community series.
